Six days allow what must be booked weeks ahead: the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, a five-thousand-year-old underground temple that admits only eighty visitors a day, and two nights on Gozo to see the Cittadella without the return ferry hanging over you.
Tap a point to see which one it is and how to get there.
A suggestion, not a rule: once you create the trip you can split it up however you like.
💡From June to September there is no shade anywhere
Malta is limestone with barely a tree, and midday glare in high summer is punishing. Spring and autumn are by far the best time: you can still swim, the sights are empty and you can walk at any hour.
💡Buses reach everywhere, just not quickly
A single network covers the whole island and it is cheap, especially with the twelve-journey card or the seven-day pass. What it does not offer is punctuality: in summer they fill up and drive past. For Gozo, the ferry leaves Ċirkewwa every half hour and you only pay on the way back.
💡No heels and no bare shoulders in the co-cathedral
The marble floor is a seventeenth-century graveyard and stilettos damage it: you take them off at the door. Bare shoulders and very short trousers are also turned away, and the same goes for the churches in Mdina.
