Faroe Islands in 2 days, no ferriesTwo days without leaving the two islands joined by tunnel, which is what makes it fit: day one Tórshavn and the village of Kirkjubøur, with its fourteenth-century cathedral ruins; day two, on Vágar, the Gásadalur waterfall dropping into the sea and lake Sørvágsvatn, which from one angle appears to float above the ocean.2 days· 4 stops
The Faroes in four daysThe essentials, based in Tórshavn with a hire car, which here is not optional. Leave the Vestmanna boat for day one: if the sea is rough it is cancelled, and that way you still have days to try again.4 days· 8 stops
The Faroes in a weekThe same plus the two islands that need their own ferry: Mykines, the puffin one, open only May to August with limited places, and Kalsoy, with the Kallur lighthouse on a ridge with sea on both sides. Seven days fits both and leaves margin for bad weather, which here you need.6 days· 10 stops

Sørvágsvatn, the lake above the ocean💡Do not make a fixed plan: the weather will break it
There can be sun, fog, rain and wind within the same hour, and the boats to Mykines or Vestmanna are cancelled without warning when the sea is up. Book the excursions for the first days of the trip and keep the last ones spare. And if a day dawns clear, change the plan and go to whatever needs good weather: here you decide in the morning.
💡Nearly all the land is private and several paths charge a fee
This is not a national park: the fields belong to families who have been there for generations, and at Saksun, Sørvágsvatn and several viewpoints you pay a fee to the owner. These are not rip-offs but agreements reached after years of conflict over people crossing farms and leaving gates open. Stay on the marked routes and close the gates.
