The city's axis in a straight line: the Pilar basilica with Goya's frescoes in the domes, La Seo with its Mudéjar wall, the stone bridge to see both from across the Ebro, and the Aljafería, the best preserved taifa palace outside Andalusia.

A suggestion, not a rule: once you create the trip you can split it up however you like.

💡The cierzo is not a breeze
It is a dry, hard north-westerly that comes down the Ebro valley, mostly in winter and spring. Five degrees with cierzo is a cold that does not show on the thermometer. Always a windbreaker — and in summer the opposite: forty degrees and little shade.
💡Dinner is eaten standing, in El Tubo
A tangle of alleys behind the Plaza de España with dozens of bars side by side. You order one tapa and one beer at each and move on: staying in the first is missing the point. Start early, around eight.
💡In October the Pilar festival fills everything
Around the 12th of October there are nine days of the flower offering, free concerts and giants in the streets. It is one of the best things the city has, but accommodation sells out months ahead and prices jump. Book, or dodge that week.
