💡You can stand at the opera for four euros
The State Opera sells standing tickets on the day, a couple of hours before. You queue, tie a scarf to the rail to mark your spot, and see the whole performance for what a coffee and cake costs.
💡The tap water comes down from the Alps and is free
It arrives by aqueduct from the mountains and is among the best in Europe. Fill your bottle at any fountain and save the three euros it costs on any terrace in the centre.
💡In a Viennese café the waiter is brusque, and it isn't about you
It comes with the job: short answers, no smiling, and a glass of water alongside the coffee you never asked for. It isn't rudeness and they haven't taken against you; it's how it has worked for a hundred years.
💡On Sunday not a single shop opens
No supermarkets, no shops: in Austria Sunday closing is taken literally. Museums, cafés and restaurants do open, so buy on Saturday whatever you are going to need.

Metro, tram and bus on the same ticket, validated once at the start. There are no barriers: checks are random and the fine is a hundred euros.
